Cut Paper Collages

These compositions I made from 2000 to 2001 with clippings from magazines. They range in size from maybe 3 to 12 inches. There were a few larger compositions, but I don't have the photos handy to include here. The odd flesh tones are due to magazine printing errors or the color balances of the original pictures. Only two images in this gallery had any digital rearranging, and that did not affect color. The first few of these I made while studying abroad in Japan, and I continued when I returned to the US. While working on them I was thinking about the way familiar colors, shapes, sizes, and gestures becomes strange when they are removed from original contexts and viewed in mew settings. I printed a small book of this group as part of my senior thesis at Amherst college, and I plan to reprint it again in the future.
